The so called House of the Marquis of San Jorge was built at the end of the 18th century. After having been owned by spanish aristocrats, the house was sold to the Popular Bank which restored the property and converted it into a museum. The main show room, known as the San Jorge salon, is used to exhibit the majority of the museums colonial art collection which includes carvings, imagery, and paintings. The other rooms showcase a valuable collection of pottery and gold jewelry from various native pre-columbian cultures. The displays are presented in such a way as to de explanatory and didactic. Furthermore, the museum has an excellent data base. The roof and murals which date back to the 17th and 18th centuries have been restored. Recently a new mural has been discovered and restored and a new exhibit of figurative pre-Columbian pottery is on display.

Some complementary services include audiovisuals, permanent and temporary exhibits, a library, workshops for kids, and occasional conferences.
