43 artists from around the country are part of the first version of the BBVA Art room - New Names Bank of the Republic, a joint effort between two renowned programs to promote emerging artists in Colombia, which since 2010 have joined efforts to strengthen the contemporary art and its view at national level. The exposure “Essays for a perfect world”, conservatorship by Carlos Betancourt, explores what happens when the "failure" is seen as a form of knowledge in a world where success, perfection, beauty and productivity are the highest social ideals.
More than 500 artists and groups presented their portfolios to this convocation. The curator Carlos Betancourt defined a group of 43 participants: five from the Atlantic coast, five from Medellín, five from Bucaramanga, one from Tunja, three from the Coffee-growing region, 20 from Bogotá and Cali and six from Popayan. The sample is divided into different subjects: repetition, trial and error, extinction, nostalgia, paradox, the accident and tragedy, are some of them.
The finalists will participate in a stock purchase of 50 million pesos, which will be defined by representatives from both of financial institutions, the curator and members of the Friends of the Bank of the Republic collections Association, among others.
New Names program, that Bank of the Republic develops since 1985 and that seeks to promote emerging artists in Colombia, will join the BBVA Art room. This alliance, which seeks the strengthening of contemporary art and its display at the national level, will be called “BBVA Art room - Bank of the Republic New Names" In 26 years of work, New Names are consolidated as a platform for the later generations of artists. Many of them now have large national and international recognition as Doris Salcedo, Maria Fernanda Cardoso, Delcy Morelos, Carlos Salazar, Carlos Salas, Rafael Ortiz, Miguel Huerta, Johanna Calle, Elias Heim, Ana Claudia Munera, Oswaldo Macia, Patricia Bravo, Gloria Posada, Lucas Ospina, Bernardo Ortiz, Rosario Lopez, among many others.
